Circle 1: Composition: Poet

Compose three poems with a maximum of 50 lines total combined length.

Odin’s Night:

Off in the distance you hear such a sound:

The call of the horn and the bay of the hound.

With the caw of the crow,

And the fall of the snow,

Clearly it’s Odin who’s coming through town.

Nanna has said to look out for their flight,

Fast runs the boar that they hunt on this night.

With his men giving chase,

And the hounds setting pace,

Ducking your head you avoid their firm bite.

Using Indo-European Language

1) Translate the following liturgical phrases into your Hearth Culture language:

2) What do you consider to be the importance of using phrases in a hearth culture language other than Modern English (or your own native language) in ADF ritual? (Minimum 200 words)

There are two different sides to the argument for and against the use of a foreign language in ritual.

1.Keep a journal of your work directing five rituals, at least two of which must be ADF High Day rituals and all of which must include five or more total celebrants who have been assigned parts. Submit an essay in which you describe how you directed the celebrants in the following ritual performance elements, and what you learned over the period you journaled. (600 words minimum for essay)

Ritual Mechanics

1.Explain why purification is important prior to ritual, and what you do to purify yourself before you lead a rite. Include any prayers said, items used, and any stage directions needed to help your reviewer understand what is happening. (min. 150 words, not including prayers, items, and directions)
