To continue my NE111 quest, I branched out of NY once again and hit the closest peak in Vermont, Killington.  The trail up was quite lovely.  It was a long relatively flat wooded trail that ranged from trail width to forest road and was an absolute pleasure to hike.  The mile or so of up to the AT/LT was steady, but nothing difficult.  Up to this point is was mostly dirt with some interspersed rocks for trail.  The trail also went from a deciduous forest to a coniferous forest as we got higher, and I didn't really notice it until we were well past the line where it happens.  After the short hike on the AT/LT, the last 0.2 miles up was the most difficult part of the trail.  This reminded me of the 'Daks with large granite shards that we climbed up and over, and a wide open ledge at the top with breathtaking views.

Overall, it was a beautiful hike and we had perfect weather.  It was the first time I hiked with one of those that joined me, and it was a pleasure to hike with him and the other hiker whom I've hiked a few times with.  7.6 miles and 2580 feet of elevation over 5.3 hours (with a long linger on the peak).  Bringing me to 284 miles over 191 hours and 13.6 miles of elevation this year.  For the NE111 I'm 55/115 and 1/5 for Vermont 5.
