We discussed Summer Solstice traditions along with how we plan to celebrate the solstice.  Here are some bits of what was discussed:

  • longest day of the year
  • official start of summer
  • "battle of oak king and holly king" absolutely no foundation in IE lore
  • opposite holiday of yule, the longest night
  • first harvest, early fruits like strawberries and rhubarb, chives, parsley, basil
  • In Minnesota, they do a Midsummer Pole - similar to the Maypole
  • work with the sun
  • celebrate the sun
  • harness sun energy for healing
  • sunrise rituals
  • raise and send energy into the crops for a successful year
