Went hiking today to join a friend on his quest for his 3500. This hike was South West Hunter, my third time up the mountain. We started at the end of Spruceton bright and early with a light drizzle and chilly temperatures. I was the only one that didn't put on a long sleeve shirt or rain gear, and I was right to not do that as I warmed up by the time we hit Diamond Notch falls. We hiked in at a relaxed pace and found ourselves at the falls in no time. We then turned left and went up the DP and next thing we knew, we were at the top of the climb at Geiger point, and a quick look out that way, no view, all clouds. It levels out around here and we kept going to what looked like the herd path. I was wrong, we were about 100 feet shy of the herd path. We took it though, and after a minute or two of hiking the path ended and we bushwacked over to where the real path was. Then it was down the herd path to the the point it turns left, up the hill, and searched for the canister. We made it without issues.
The hike out was slow because of the wet rocks on the way down. Again, Geiger point was socked in so we didn't stop. We did stop at the bottom though and walked out onto Diamond Notch falls and then down to the bottom of the falls. What a beautiful place to visit. Then, like 15 minutes later, we were at our cars and heading home. Lovely day to help my friend on his quest for 3500.
